The school aims to provide all children with a broad and balanced curriculum, which is relevant to the needs of a rapidly changing world. Dunton Green staff are committed to providing a stimulating environment in which the children’s work is valued and their knowledge, experience, imaginative understanding and self expression can flourish.

All of our pupils have access to the full National Curriculum which is carefully adapted to individual needs.

We base our teaching on “Imaginative Learning Projects” which incorporate all foundation subjects into thematic units based on the Cornerstones Education Curriculum.  This was started in September 2014 and has resulted in happy teachers and pupils with a real thirst for knowledge and excitement in learning.  This, we believe, will help us achieve our goal of producing independent, lifelong learners.

Teaching in Foundation Stage

Our experienced Foundation Stage staff provide outstanding practice which applies the best principles of early years education, encouraging a positive attitude to school and its routines.

In Year R your child will follow the Foundation Stage of Education. This is the education programme for 3 - 5 year olds that your child will have started in pre-school.  It is split into three prime areas which are essential for children’s healthy development. These three areas are: communication and language; physical; and personal, social and emotional development.  This works alongside the four core areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive art and design.

We are extremely proud of the outside classroom, which offers children access to all areas of the curriculum in a setting that children so often prefer.

Reporting to Parents

We hold two parent consultation evenings each year to discuss progress and achievements and produce mid year reports in terms 2 and 4 so that parents are better informed of their child’s attainment, progress and effort.  We also provide a full written report at the end of the academic year.

In addition

Staff teach French throughout the school from year 1. We also benefit from specialist teaching in a number of sports including swimming at Sevenoaks Pool, tennis lessons from qualified coach and a specialist PE teacher.  From 2016 children will also benefit from a professional artist supporting art lessons.. Children will learn a range of different sports throughout the year including football, tag rugby, netball, rounders, cross country, cricket, tennis and swimming. There are a number of different sports clubs for the children to join. Sports Day is also held on our beautiful field once a year and we actively encourage competition..

Peripatetic teachers offer tuition in piano, drums, guitar and brass instruments.  We are always looking to expand what we offer in terms of musical tuition. Peripatetic lessons are charged for by the tutors and information can be found in the office if you are interested in these sessions.
